Mejtská, Petra ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Hrešanová, Ema (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the experiences of employees and volunteers working in centres and clubs for the elderly people that organize leisure activities for their clients. These organisations fulfil the idea of active ageing, which they define as healthy and correct way of ageing. Activity, participation and social contact are important aspects of this concept, which should lead to an improved quality of life in old age, physical and mental health and other benefits. However, during the spring of 2020, all activities of the centres (and other institutions) were interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Elderly people were advised to stay home and isolate themselves. This, however, brought additional risks for them. Loneliness in old age is a debated topic that was accentuated during the pandemic. This thesis uses qualitative methods, and my communication partners are volunteers, lecturers and managers of the senior centres and clubs who worked there throughout the pandemic and beyond. Using in-depth qualitative, semi-open-ended interviews, this thesis is interested in how they coped with the sudden closure during the pandemic and what strategies they adopted to protect their clients. The text seeks to approach their decision-making on the edge of two risks - loneliness and the possibility of...

The digital divide - a product of the modern information society - is one of the major factors influencing the social exclusion of elderly people. The theoretical part of theses introduces the concept of active aging as a way of successful solving problems associated with the population ageing, as well as a prevention of the exclusion of seniors from both society and participation in public affairs. The author mainly focuses on the issue of how are seniors in the Czech Republic at risk of exclusion as a result of digital exclusion. In the practical part, the present level of digital literacy of Czech seniors is explored. Current life of "superwomen" after primary family breakup
Hanáková, Šárka ; Kobová, Ĺubica (advisor) ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (referee)
This thesis is dedicated to women who were called "the super women" during the communist era. Their mission was to combine their profession with taking care of their children alongside of being a housewife. Even though the traditional model of the men supporting the whole family changed to more democratic model with the both man and woman supporting the family, the housekeeping and taking care of children still stayed the wive's responsibility. In the period of communism, women were "double burdened". They dedicated their lives for their families and the free time they had, which was less then what men had, mostly corresponded with the interests of children and the whole family. In this thesis I focus on how these women live nowadays. They have already retired and after losing their partner they now live alone. I also focus on how they deal with this different life situation and changes in their social roles. I work with the theoretical approaches of emancipated femininity and active aging as a way to cope with changes in social status. I chose the qualitative approach as a research method. It is implemented in this diploma thesis by analyzing thorough interviews with widowed seniors.
